 Ice ,  God's  miracle

We went to see a place where the  hills were covered by ice.

House roofs were capped with thick ice,

Trees were decorated  with  hanging ice sponges,

Roads were spread with ice and  often cleared by buldozers.

It was nice to see,  ice everywhere and ice fog just  infront of us.

My grand son was able to lift a big size ice.

Weight of the ice is less than the weight of  water.

Why does  the weight of the ice is less ?

When water cools to become ice,

At 4 degree C, water expands, and then becomes ice at 0 degree .

Because water expands and forms ice, its volume becomes more.

Hence,  the weight of the ice  becomes less than the weight of water.

Ice is the solid form of water but the weight of the  solid ( ice )  is less than the  liquid  (water).

In the words of physics, the density of ice is less than the density of water.

Because of this what happens ?

Less weight ice floats on more weight water.

( Less weight Thermal box floats on water.

      Less weight oil floats on water. 

      Less weight wooden plank floats on water)

If water had not expanded at 4 degree, ice would not weigh less than water,

Then,  Ice would not float on water.

For me , it is a miracle that  takes place at 4 degree.

Why do you say, it is a miracle ?

Physics says ,when materials are heated, they expand,

In case  of water,  the expansion also  takes  place  when  it is cooled.

It is a miracle. Because of this miracle, ice floats on water.

What is the advatage of ice floating on water ?

It has the greatest advantage.

It saves the lives of millions of sea living beings ( sea inhabitants ).

How ?

During winter,  in some areas of the globe,  sea water becomes ice.

Ice is a solid, if the entire sea becomes a solid,  all the sea living beings would  die.

Are they dying ? 

Nature does allow them to die. To Safeguard their lives, water expands at 4 degree.

Then at 0 degree it becomes ice, Hence the density of ice becomes less than water.

So ice floats on water. The expansion of water takes place at 4 degree, it is a miracle.

Something interesting , how  the expansion  of water saves their lives ?

Because water expands 9% at 4 degree, its density becomes less than water.

Therefore it floats on water and ice forms a strong crust on the surface of the sea.

This crust acts as a strong  shield and maintains water under it .

In this water,  living beings live safely till summer.

During summer ice melts and  the entire sea becomes water.

Wonderful, why  does water expands at 4 degree while cooling.?

Science says it is anamalous expansion.

Anamalous means abnormal or peculiar, 

Chemistry says, " because of the formation of  hydrogen bonds." .

Whatever it may be, it is  God's miracle at 4 degree C to safeguard the life of  the sea animals.

During  this trip,

We enjoyed seeing ice play grounds,  where people were driving thick tyred motor bikes.

We wondered seeing  ice sking,  where long runners are attached to the shoes.

We liked our stay  in a star restaurant with  an excellent ambience.

We were excited to see a buffet lunch  having more than 100 items.

We  were astonished to  see,   the cable cars carrying the people to the top of the hill .

We were surprised to see, the aged  people gambling in the Casinos even after  mid night,

We were shocked  to see, girls with minimum dress supplying hot drinks to the gamblers.

We were delighted to see 1600 luxurious rooms in a single restaurant.
